On the streets it is\u00a0dangerous; there is little hygiene, violence, abuse and often the children do not have access to education or healthcare.<\/p>\n<h2>What are street children?<\/h2>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/archived.kidsrights.webkey8.nl\/uk\/advocacy\/winners\/kesz-valdez\/\">2012 &#8211; Kesz Valdez (13), Philippines<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Street children are children who depend on the streets to live and\/or work, either on their own, or with other kids or family members. They have strong connections to public spaces such as streets, markets, parks, stations and they think of themselves as being part of the streets. This also includes children who do not live on the streets per se, but they regularly accompany other children\/family members on the streets.<\/p>\n<h2>Did you know\u2026<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>in the Philippines, 1 in 10 children receives no education;<\/li>\n<li>1 out of the 10 children is malnourished and 1 out of 3 suffers from growth retardation;<\/li>\n<li>40% of the urban population lives in conditions of extreme poverty;<\/li>\n<li>children are always the first victims when it comes to drugs, violence, rape and prostitution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What does KidsRights do?<\/h2>\n<h4>projects &amp; kidsrights reports on street children<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/archived.kidsrights.webkey8.nl\/uk\/research\/kidsrights-reports\/street-children-have-rights-too\/\">Street children: Street children have rights too<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>KidsRights works together with local partners to stand up for the rights of children through research, action and advocacy.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, Kesz Valdez from The Philippines won the International Children\u2019s Peace Prize for his effort to stand up for the rights of street children. To support Kesz, KidsRights invests in projects related to street children in The Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>KidsRights also published a report on this theme:\u00a0Street Children Have Rights Too!
